Anika Needs ...

I got this from another blog and so what if I didn't get tagged?? I run too fast ... I googled 'Anika needs' and found some interesting things out. Lets take a closer look ...

Anika needs little introduction.
Anika needs to have a day like Friday.
Anika bashers need a reality check.
Anika needs to know it's ok to make mistakes.
Anika needs prayers.
Anika needs the same when it comes to sex.
Anika needs money for a boob job.
Anika needs to stay free and safe.
Anika needs fun.
Anika needs our attention.
Anika needs a little time to organize.
Anika needs to know what's going on.
Anika needs that piece of paper to know that she's married.
Anika needs to practice flying.
Anika needs to eat some doughnuts.
Anika needs more than a hug.

The Weather Outside is Frightful ...

Ok, maybe it's not really frightful. But people in this area of the world* get a little bit heebie jeebied when it snows 5 centimeters (I don't know how many inches that is). And they drive slow ... Ok maybe I drive slow too. But it's simply not my fault.

Yesterday I was trying to motivate Jacob to keep his room clean and I said "maybe if you didn't have so many toys it would be easier for you." It kinda backfired because he agreed with me and offered to give away some toys that he doesn't play with as much. So I think that's what we're going to do. I also offered to help him clean his room and he said "actually maybe I will do it by myself so that we don't have to waste as much time with you always asking me where I think things should go." He wasn't being rude, just honest.

And I'm not rude. Just honest.

*Contrary to popular belief, we don't have snow all year round and we don't live in igloos and we don't have snowdogs.

This is the Lumpiest Monday ...

The thing that makes up for the fact that last night I had a migraine and then someone drove into my parked car and ran away (leaving a small, but very annoying dent) is ...

... I found out this morning that I have one class left, not two, to take to be able to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. And I'm taking it in the spring semester!

God still likes me!

I Just Want To Be:

One of those people who can pretend and pretend and pretend while they're sorting things out in their own head.

Away from here.

A mom.

Skipping through life with my pigtails and knee-high flourescent socks.

Done.

Evidence of Neuroticism:

This morning as I was driving Jacob to school I didn't see any kids walking to the local school. And it made me worry: maybe Jake doesn't have school today! Yesterday he thought it was Friday but it was only Thursday but what if it was Friday for him because today he doesn't have school and I forgot to put it on the calendar?! What if I didn't notice that no one was even at his school and I dropped him off and he was there all alone in the rain?! What kind of a mother am I?!?! ...

But he did have school today.

*sigh* Self. You. Must. Stop. Worrying.

I Have A Cold ...

... and I don't want to wear my painting smock!

Last night Andrew, being the wonderful little guy he is, looked after Jacob for the evening while I went for din-dins in celebration of my friend's birthday. "You can just make Kraft Dinner if you want," I said, "Jake loves it and it's pretty hard to screw up Kraft Dinner."

Yeah, except if you put the cheese-powder and milk in with the water and uncooked noodles.

Apparently he didn't have Kraft Dinner growing up (which is child abuse, in my opinion).
Ouch, hey?

I Love This Song ...

Better Days by the Goo Goo Dolls:

And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

So take these words
And sing out loud
Cuz everyone is forgiven now
Cuz tonight's the night the world begins again

And it's someplace simple where we could live
And something only you can give
And thats faith and trust and peace while we're alive
And the one poor child that saved this world
And there's 10 million more who probably could
If we all just stopped and said a prayer for them

So take these words
And sing out loud
Cuz everyone is forgiven now
Cuz tonight's the night the world begins again

I wish everyone was loved tonight
And somehow stop this fight
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

So take these words
And sing out loud
Cuz everyone is forgiven now
Cuz tonight's the night the world begins again

Vot Vee Did ...

This weekend consisted of:

- Jacob and I going for a 'date' to a Junior A hockey game. He mostly watched the mascot. And I got stuck sitting beside a woman who couldn't turn down the volume on her internal dialogue (it sounded something like this: "oh my GOD he is skating so close to our player, can you BELIEVE the ref didn't call that?! Oh ouch, did you SEE him slide into the boards? Well he should get a penalty for that. He took the puck away from our team, that's not very nice. Jesus CHRIST guys* that was a bad move"

- voting. Ok, this is a tricky one, folks, because in truth I thought it was the federal** election. I ended up voting for the wrong mayor by accident (the good one still won) and I basically voted for the other guys in alphabetical order. Plus I didn't vote for Stephen L. something-or-other because, come on, if you have to use your full name and middle initial, you're too self-important for the job.

- winning a round of drinks at a pub with Firefighter Jen because Trevor Linden scored a goal

- Jacob getting his hair cut (which he likes despite the fact it "makes my head cold")

It was a good weekend.

*at which point Jake turned fully around in his seat to stare at the woman.
**is federal even the right word? I mean the one where we vote in the premier and prime minister and all that

We Broke Up ...

I called off my relationship (translation: I thought he was cute) with my ClassMate Crush after an intense six hour relationship (translation: I noticed him two weeks ago and classes are 3 hours long). He just wasn't there for me (translation: he skipped class yesterday) and he didn't give me enough attention (translation: he didn't know I exist). We were growing apart (translation: I have attention deficit disorder) and I couldn't stand for us to continue on like this (translation: I only have class once a week).

Please try to respect our privacy as we try to get through this difficult time*.

*I dunno, Sienna Miller and Jude Law said this and Kenny Chesney and Renee Zellweger said this so I thought it appropriate.

Things That Make Me Laugh Every Time Without Fail:

- when Jacob makes this face with a goofy smile and his eyes crossed and half closed (I'll try to find a picture of it, it's really funny)
- Will Farrell impersonating Harry Carey
- Will Farrell doing pretty much anything
- pretending to cry, sob, and wail about wearing a painting smock
- when I was littler I was plotting with my friends to put a carrot in Carly's milk and she came into the room and knew we were talking about her and she got mad and said, 'I was not picking my nose!!'
- the joke about the string who isn't served at a bar because he's a string so he ties himself up and fluffs up his hair and then when the bartender asks if he's the same string, says, 'No, I'm a frayed knot.'
- Janie saying 'mais oui' in a French froggy accent
- the tea party in Alice in Wonderland*
- thinking about Andrew's mom telling him she's horny
- falling up the stairs

*Alice in Wonderland's really becoming a theme in my blog, hey? Hey guys?

Star Light Star Bright ...

I wish we had secret passages in our house.
I wish thoughts were tangeable so that I could keep some in front of me all the time, and others locked away where I never had to look at them.
I wish Santa Clause was real.
I wish I could find what I'm looking for.
I wish I had caffeine in a little salt shaker.
I wish someone knew me.
I wish I had 5-cent candies to eat.
I wish I wasn't lost.

You Can Run But You Can't Hide ...

Today (and yesterday) I feel like I'm slowly being engulfed by a big blackness. And there's really no sense fighting it because I can't win.
I'm being swallowed alive into a big black hole.

Goodbye, Dinah!

Goodbyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyye!*

*It's from Alice in Wonderland

"I had a great day AND I'm staying up late!"

That's what Jacob said to me as we were driving back from our trip to Seattle to see Shari. It was so fun, friends, so fun.

And Bertuzzi got a hat trick last night. How crazily wonderful is that?

Yesterday I had a mini-fantasy as we were driving. Do you all know who Christine McGee of Sleep Country Canada is? Let me just disclaimer this story by saying she has a really annoying voice and she's dumb and her commercials suck. They SUUUUCK. *ahem*. Ok. So I had this vision of me breaking into Sleep Country and spray-painting "Christine McGee is a loser*" all over everything in the store. But then I got caught. And then I was in big fat trouble. And while I was in my jail cell I could hear Christine McGee laughing her stupid-evil laugh: "Muahahahaha MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA"

Horrible, isn't it? And it started out so good.

Super-cala-fraji-listic-expee-ali-docious

See, I can use big words too. Some discussions in class last night were clearly over my head. I didn't even try to join in. It's time to dye my hair again.

My Class Crush was there, yesirree. He was late, so I didn't get a chance to ask him for a pen, like Nikol suggested (although I did try her other suggestion of pretend make-out sessions while the rest of the class was using words I didn't understand). He sat right behind me, making the whole make-eye-contact-and-let-it-linger idea a little difficult. But during the break he looked at me, yes he did. And it wasn't because I was standing 10 feet in front of him, no it wasn't.

Starbucks' Christmas drinks are here again! An old friend called me just to tell me that, isn't that nice? Now I can get white-chocolate-mochas-with-eggnog-instead-of-milk and get fatter and fatter.

And soon I will take over the world.

Anika Linked Search of the Day ...

"the experience of love"
I can think of a million of other places one should look to find an experience of love before they'd find it on my site. Friend, why don'tcha go to Jerk's blog? He's full of sugar and spice and everything nice AND love.

"the girl with the brown crayon"
I thought I done told ya* I feel sorry for brown crayons**. I would be the girl with the brown paint (even though, unfortunately for me, I haven't begun painting again yet).

*the term "I done told ya" makes me laugh
**disclaimer: I am in NO WAY trying to make brown crayons a racial issue again.

Admitting is the First Step ...

20 minutes after I put Jacob to bed, he called me into his room, sobbing. I asked him what was going on and he said, through the tears, 'I just wanted to say I'm so sorry because I've been eating candy after I went to bed.' He felt so guilty. It took everything I had not to laugh. It was so sweet.

In other news, my Opa's out of the hospital, which is absolutely undeniably great.

Also, only 46 sleeps till Christmas. I'm very excited and I've been listening to Christmas songs for weeks already. I haven't unleashed the beast and started shopping yet -- I'm starting a whole new budgeting me soon.

It's Taken Me This Long ...

To find a crush in my class at school. If you remember, there's an goodie-goodie-with-too-much-facial-hair girl and a too-annoying-to-even-describe-accurately guy. The other classmates consist of:
- girl-who-sits-in-the-front-row-and-whose-parents-have-a-lot-of-money-and-buy-her-everything-she-could-possibly-want
- two-women-who-are-old-but-decided-they-wanted-to-go-back-to-school-for-one-class
- various ESL students
- three-college-boys-who-live-in-dorms-and-eat-chips-and-pop-for-dinner
- red-head-girl-who-skips-class-and-is-super-cute-but-sits-by-herself
- good-dressing-nonattractive-guy-who-drives-a-BMW-and-sits-with-a-hot-girl
- married-folks

Wait a minute, what's this? Beside the pleasant-looking-married-guy-with-laptop-who-shaves-his-head-to-hide-the-fact-he's-balding is another guy who I didn't notice before last week (when we both skipped the last half of class and I saw him in the hallway). He is tres good looking and not a very good dresser (= probably single).

Congratulations, ClassMate, you're my new crush!
I need to start doing my makeup for class and stop wearing hoodies.

The Thing of the Matter Is ...

I had tequila this weekend in celebration of Firefighter Jen's birthday. It was a very fabulous time. I'm her boyfriend's new #1 hockey fan. And I lost $20 at the casino.

I wrote a paper in less than 3 hours.

I won at Scrabble.

My friend got engaged. She has the hugest ring I've seen in my life!

I'm Smarter Than I Act ...

So my sister informed me the nest-stealer is actually the cuckoo bird, not the Dodo bird. Who'd have thunk, hey guys? Gosh, what would I do without people who tell me what's going on?

Hey, have y'all fellow Canadians heard of the sponsorship scandal? I just learned from Janie about it the other day ... They call me Political-Annie. Yes. They. Do ... YestheydoandIdon'tcarewhatyousay.

Anyways, that's all I've got today, really. But my Opa's doing so much better -- they might even let him go home from the hospital next week! Thank you all so much for the well-wishes and prayers. You all are amazing.

Also, I think I'm through the I-don't-even-want-a-boyfriend part of my thought cycle. And now I want one again ... Dear God, remember this? Just checking! Nikol has one and I would really like one too (please). I'll be here if you need me! Love, Political-Annie.

Quirky Quirkerson ...

I got tagged and I have to list my quirks. QUIRKS?! What makes you think I have any?? So instead, I'm listing things that are completely normal about me and it's weird that no one else does.

I already mentioned this one on a previous post, but when I'm walking on a sidewalk, if one foot steps over the cracks more times than the other foot, I feel lopsided and uneven.

I don't really like being touchy-touchy. Touchy-feely people that put their hands on me for no reason drive me bananas. And not in a good way.

My car-dancing is better than my real-dancing.

I hate it when my socks (or anyone's socks) hang off the end of my feet. Even when I was a kid, if one of my friends' socks were hanging off their feet I'd need to fix it for them (or at least point it out ... I don't like touching feet).

When I order Starbucks drinks I get nonfat milk but I get whipping cream. They kinda cancel each other out.

When people touch my neck it makes me gag.

Whenever I drive, I feel like I need to beat the other drivers (within an inch of their lives ... just joking, I just need to be faster than them).

I'm really good at Wheel of Fortune.

When I eat Smarties I need to separate the colors and eat them until all the colors have the same amount.

If there's money in my bank account, I need to spend it. Right. Now.

Sometimes when I see a license plate that has AE[another letter] I think it's a sign of what's going to be my last name when I'm married.

Anika Linked Search of the Day:

"Life size, cardboard Annikin"

Part of me is flattered. I mean, who WOULDN'T want a cardboard cutout of me? Even I would pay money for that. Wait a minute, Annikin? Not Anika?!
Someone is gonna die.

The Water's Always Greener ...

So I was thinking last night that I'd like to be a goldfish (well, after they survive the initial 3 months of a 5-cent life where they're completely disposable). I've heard they have a short memory span. I'd like it ... "Oh look! A treasure chest ... Ooooh! A treasure chest ... Wow, Elsie, would ya look at that treasure chest?! ..." etc. It would be fun, no?

If not a goldfish, maybe a Dodo bird. My sister found out (from a Double Bubble funfact) that Dodo birds don't ever make their own nests. They take over other birds' nests to lay their eggs. "*whistling* haHA, I got it! This nest is mine now, suckas!" and then lay your eggs. Sneaky hey?

In other news, Jacob got a 'special boomerang' from one of his friends. He informed me "if you throw it straight up in the air, it comes right back to you!"

The Canucks Got Beaten By a Far Superior* Team The Other Day, and Jerk is SO Dreamy I Can't Stand It!

So the Canucks lost two out of the three games played against the Avalanche. This is definitely due to the Avalanche's superiority. An Av player took out the Canuck's goalie (and then tried to take out the back up goalie as well), but this is absolutely not a contributing factor. I didn't see a 'C' in a space between the clouds and I'm pretty certain this had a lot to do with the Canucks' loss.

One Avs fan had a sign that said 'Bertuzzi wears pink panties.' That was my favorite sign. Bertuzzi saw it and laughed (it was probably an evil laugh -- I'm think it sounded like this: Muahaha muahahahahaAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
AHAHAHAHA
MUAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA).

By the way, guys, have you noticed how DREAMY Jerk has been lately? I think about him day and night. I doodle 'Anika of All Trades' on paper all day and I scanned his picture and my picture together to see what our kids will look like. I'm going to dedicate a Shania Twain love song to him on MTV. *swoon*
